    Effective Data Visualization and Persuasive Storytelling
    As awareness of data analytics grew over the last decade, it is now considered a core capability in many organizations today. As such, many individuals and organizations have invested heavily in building such capabilities; however, many continue to struggle to realize sustainable value from analytics.

    Much of the investments have been focused on building the "hard" data skills related to analytics; such as statistics, data engineering, data management, analysis etc. Part of the reason why many organizations fall short lies in the "last mile" of realizing value from analytics; more specifically, how to glean pivotal messages from data, how to make large & complex data sets accessible and how to structure and tell a story from the data that makes the audience care.

    This workshop aims to address such capability gaps; especially for professionals and managers who have some experience with analysis; but are finding some challenges in making an impact delivering the "last mile" of value in analytics. This workshop is specifically designed to round up the final pieces in the analytics value chain to help organizations achieve sustainable value in analytics.

      a.i. A general introduction of the concept of analytics; including the general applications and the potential of analytics to inform, explain and guide decision making

      • Evolution - Measuring and ensuring success; evolving with maturing organizational needs

    5. Visualization for storytelling

      a. People hear statistics and data; but feel stories. Good data story telling appeals to both the emotional and logical mind and allows audiences to make objective decisions about topics they care about
      b. Persuasive storytelling: It takes more than just data to deliver value in analytics; it takes the right combination of hard and soft data skills. Particularly the soft skills in interpreting the analytical outcomes in the right context, to prioritize the many findings and to tell a concise, coherent and persuasive story

    6. Bringing all together: Capstone Business Case Exercise

      a. The participants will work on a capstone business case exercise with the concepts and techniques they have acquired in this course
      b. The final presentation, which should include the following: Complete data story supported by data visuals and dashboard / infographics, summary of findings (each supported by data & analysis) and recommendations

    Who should attend
    This workshop is designed for managers, professionals and staff at all levels who want to learn make a bigger impact with their analysis, particularly in enhancing their understanding and skills in data visualization & storytelling. The course is suitable for participants across all industries and job functions. Participants are required to have basic MS Excel skills; some prior knowledge of data analytics would be helpful.
    Methodology
    We take a practical approach to analytics, and therefore the workshop emphasizes practical analytic skills through learning of key principles and analytics skills. A combination of lectures, discussions and interactions, as well as hands on exercises are designed to enable participants to acquire those practical skills. This workshop utilises MS Excel for all the computer-based exercises. Participants are required to bring their laptops with MS Excel (ver. 2010 or later)
    Particular of Jeremy Poon
    Jeremy has more than 30 years of commercial and professional experience, which include leadership roles across many sectors and geographies; such as telecommunication, hospitality MICE and government across Asia Pacific.

    Prior to joining FYT, he led the application of the MVNO license with IDA for a large multinational company and worked with command, control & communication solutions.

    Jeremy consults and leads engagements to help clients build analytics capabilities in their organizations. He brings his broad & extensive experience and makes the topic come to life with realistic examples and practical applications.

    Jeremy has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics from the National University of Singapore as well as a Certified Associated from the Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP).
