‘Organisational Disruption’! Modern Management for Modern Realties

We are already well into the 21st Century yet most organisations are still operating under a largely 20th Century Management System and set of leadership behaviours. Technology, competitive landscapes, employee social patterns and customer habits have changed dramatically over the past few decades, but the management approaches we use to run our organisations have not kept up adequately. We are living in a VUCA world where Volatility is frequent, Uncertainty is the norm, Complexity is part of everyday life and Ambiguity is rampant. But how to face and overcome these 21st Century realities? With extreme technology disruption, what is the future of work? What value will leaders add in the future? What roles will they play and what leadership style should they adopt?

We welcome you to explore a 21st Century way of managing and leading your organisation.

The 21st Century demands strategic coherence, constant change, dynamic agility, organisational flexibility and a hyper-engaged workforce deeply focused on continual innovation. This requires modern, flexible and inclusive management concepts in order to fully leverage changing geo-economic realities, public-private-people relationships, inter- and intra-organisational dynamics, customer demands, employee expectations, technologies and business models. In this course we will explore all of these topics and more.
    Objective
This course is designed for leaders and managers of all levels to understand the organisational challenges of the 21st Century, both present and future, so that they can take proactive steps to evolve and transform both their working teams as well as themselves as individual professionals. Participants will be taken through all the key elements of the 21st Century Management System and thoroughly compare them to the older (yet still commonplace) 20th Century management attributes, providing a clear comparison between the two systems. Exercises and examples will be applied to reinforce critical concepts. By the end of the course, participants will have a specific understanding of what are the challenges facing modern organisations, what is 21st Management & Leadership, and what are their organisation’s gaps in terms of the older management approaches and the new management requirements.
    Outline
    • Welcome to the 21st Century
      - How current management and leadership has lagged behind technological progress, societal trends and geo-economic realties
      - Key pitfalls of the antiquated management policies and practices that are still largely entrenched in current organisational culture, structure and operating approaches
      - Brief historical context and comparison between '20th Century' Management and '21st Century' Management
      - Introduction to the holistically-designed '21st Century Management System'

    • The 5 Foundational Key Components to Achieve Organisational Excellence
      1) Strategy & Philosophy
      2) Process Excellence
      3) Habitual Assessment
      4) Continuous Improvement & Learning
      5) People, Leadership & Culture

    • The 12 Characteristics of 21st Century Management
Point-by-point explanation of each of the ‘12 Characteristics of 21st Management’, each accompanied by a comparison with its 20th Century counterpart and review of their pitfalls. Examples and Exercises will be applied to reinforce the critical concepts behind each Characteristic. Open discussions in small teams will be facilitated in order to share view, perspectives and experiences

    • Gap Assessment and Conclusion
A Self-Assessment will be provided so that participants can self-rate their current organisations in terms of 20th Century Management versus 21st Century Management. Results will be shared in an intimate, small team format for an honest and deep discussion on organisational habits to reinforce versus ones that need changing or even transforming. Methods for continuous follow-up and learning will be recommended, including further coursework, reading, and other developmental ways. As a final segment, Key Points for the 21st Century Journey will be presented for final thoughts.
    Who should attend
This course is aimed at Senior Leaders, Middle Managers, HR/Organisational Development practitioners and any professionals who are proactive in nature and wish to be on the leading edge of their professional and organisational journeys towards overall excellence. They will leave this course with a fresh look at management practices, both current and future, and energised to bring positive change and transformation.
